Mitigation Schemes
Mitigation schemes are designed to reduce adverse impacts on a particular species or habitat. Schemes are designed on a site basis, which vary greatly depending on the environment and project requirements.

Example of Amphibian Mitigation Work
Amphibian mitigation works may include fencing a site and clearing the area of amphibians during development works. At the above site on completion of works the land is to be restored for nature conservation. Other mitigation works included the creation of several ponds, woodland enhancement works (the removal of Rhododendron) and the creation of several hibernacula.
All great crested newt mitigation works are undertaken under a DEFRA licence.
