National Vegetation Classification

National Vegetation Classification (NVC) surveys are undertaken where a more detailed habitat assessment survey is required. Generally this level of survey is required to assess sites that contain semi-natural featuers of ecological value or when a protected sites is affected by development.  The NVC survey is widely used assess the flora value of a habitat and provide a scientific evaluation.  In brief the NVC, is a technique used to classify British Plant Communities, (there are over 250 plant communities).

We have undertaken NVC surveys of the following habitats; Aquatic communities, swamps and tall-herb fens, Woodlands and scrub, Grasslands and montane communities, and Mires and heaths.
