Project Description
National Vegetation Classification (NVC)
National Vegetation Classification (NVC) surveys are undertaken where a more detailed habitat assessment survey is required. Generally, this level of survey is required to assess sites that contain semi-natural features of ecological value or when a protected site is affected by development. The NVC survey is widely used to assess the floristic value of a habitat and to provide a scientific evaluation. In brief, the NVC is a technique used to classify British Plant Communities (there are over 250 plant communities).
Surveys involve an expert ecologist walking over a site, to map and provide a comprehensive species lists with composition that can be used to advise habitat creation or restoration.
Ecology Services Ltd. have undertaken NVC surveys of the following habitats: aquatic communities, swamps and tall-herb fens, woodlands and scrub, grasslands and montane communities, and mires and heaths.
